Rabies Treatment

Free rabies treatment for animal bite patients at the Mapandan RHU Animal Bite Treatment Center. First dose free for residents.

Description

The RHU provides anti-rabies treatment for animal bite patients through the Animal Bite Treatment Center (ABTC). The service includes wound assessment, counselling, prescription of rabies vaccine or immunoglobulin, and post-treatment instructions. The first dose is free for 4P's members and Mapandan residents. Subsequent doses cost ₱350 each.

Requirements

  • Rabies exposure case (bite or scratch)

Procedure

  1. Register in the log book. Midwife classifies patient (new/old, PhilHealth member, emergency/senior citizen priority).
  2. Record patient's data, vital signs, and bite/scratch details.
  3. MHO performs wound/scratch assessment and provides counselling.
  4. MHO prescribes rabies vaccine or immunoglobulin (as applicable).
  5. ABTC Nurse administers anti-rabies vaccine and/or immunoglobulin.
  6. ABTC Nurse provides post-treatment instructions and follow-up schedule.
  7. Pharmacy Assistant dispenses vaccines or medicine.
